The third live-action Fullmetal Alchemist movie heading to Netflix in September
With the recent addition of the second Fullmetal Alchemist live-action movie to Netflix’s catalogue, it should be no surprise that the third and final (so far) movie of the franchise would get added soon. However, what is a surprise is how soon it is being added after its theatrical run. The movie opened on June 24th of this year, just a few months before its Netflix stream date.
Although I haven’t officially reviewed the first two movies yet, the first one was not good – watchable, but not good, mainly due to the over-exaggerated acting (good for anime, not so good for live-action) as well as some of the more technical aspects of the film. The second entry was better, and I’d consider it sort of decent for what it was. Both movies roughly follow the same path as the anime (Brotherhood) and manga, though at a much more accelerated pace. The first movie covered the initial encounter with the Homunculus and the second movie dealt with Scar.
The third movie, titled Fullmetal Alchemist: The Final Alchemy, will revolve around the country-wide conspiracy as well as the absent father of the Elric boys. A roughly translated synopsis from the official site is below.
“Lurking in the center of the national conspiracy is the Father of the Homunculus who aims to become a “perfect existence” in exchange for the souls of the nation’s people. Will the Elric brothers and Mustang be able to stand up to the dark side of the military? Can they, and their friends from Xin, along with their Philosopher’s Stone work together to stop the conspiracy? And who exactly is Ed and Al’s father, and what is his connection to all these events? What is this “promised day” he talks about? There’s only a short time left – what is the final solution to the question that the brothers have sacrificed their bodies for?”
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Final Alchemy (Hagane no Renkinjutsushi: Kanketsuhen Saigo no Rensei) will stream on Netflix on September 24th, 2022.
