Netflix surprises us with a bonus Sandman episode

We binge-watched the 10 episodes of the recent Sandman series on Netflix, based off of the graphic novel by acclaimed writer Neil Gaiman, and we went through the usual cycle of hoping for news of as second season because we wanted to see more of Morpheus aka Dream. But then, this weekend, Netflix drops a surprise on us and reveals that there is an 11th episode!

The 11th episode, which we consider a bonus episode, is a two-parter, with one part adapting what is supposedly a fan-favorite story from the comics called A Dream of a Thousand Cats, which was presented in a sort of rotoscopic animation style that was unlike the live-action style of the rest of the series. The second part (titled Calliope) featured a desperate author looking to write his next book… at any cost.

And this surprise drop was a pleasant surprise! I always hated the “drip-fed” method of slowly releasing episodes, either weekly or in sets – usually done to make it seem like there is more new content on a platform than there really is – however this is an excellent way of having that extended effect without making us suffer with the extended wait.
